After 12 years of teaching piano and voice privately, elementary music, and special education, Athena decided to combine her two passions to become a Board-Certified Music Therapist.
In 2009 she completed certification in all level special ed and fell in love, working with children with special needs. Her passion is children diagnosed with autism.
In 2011 God blessed Athena with a wonderful little boy on the spectrum who has been her inspiration for going back to school to get her Music Therapy certification.
She saw such a huge difference in him after doing therapeutic music activities with him. His eye contact increased, and his ability to pay attention was amazing. He even attempted some words for the first time. This was huge for her son.
Being a musician and a special education teacher, Athena jumped in to learn more about how she could help her son since he responded so well.
Athena finished the equivalency portion at Sam Houston State University and internship at UT Health Center in Tyler, Athena received her Board Certification in August of 2018.
